Aruba and simplinic jointly drive smart hospital applications

Global networking specialist Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company, and Berlin-based IoT solutions provider simplinic are now offering hospitals a quick entry into the smart hospital through their technology partnership. Through the collaboration, hospitals can use Aruba's access points for IoT solutions from simplinic . In Offenbach, Sana Kliniken AG has successfully launched a pilot with the existing Aruba infrastructure and the simplinic.Cloud. Already available are automatic temperature monitoring and utilization analysis of ultrasound devices through Bluetooth data transmission. Real-time localization (RTLS) will be available in the next step.

Many hospitals already have WLAN access points with integrated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radio technology, as some manufacturers have been supplying their access points with BLE as standard for years. In many places, however, the resulting opportunities for hospitals are not yet being exploited. Added value for the customer only comes about through the right collaborations. The partnership between Aruba and simplinic now offers hospitals the opportunity to use the technology and quickly create added value for the hospital. The Aruba WLAN infrastructure is used for data transmission via BLE. The simplinic.Cloud processes this data for a range of software solutions in the areas of logistics, cleaning and medical technology, as well as automatic monitoring. This can be used, for example, for real-time temperature monitoring when storing medicines in refrigerators. "Collaborations are bringing breakthroughs for IoT in hospitals," said Bernd Christoph Meisheit, managing director of Sana IT, "By using the existing Aruba WLAN access points, we save time and significant costs."

"We increasingly see our access points as IoT gateways to avoid building parallel gateway infrastructures to implement IoT projects," said Katja Herzog, public sector sales director at Aruba. Aruba sees itself as a pioneer in the IoT environment. Early on, the manufacturer integrated BLE into its access points as well as a USB port to flexibly expand the access point. This was followed by support for ZigBee. The latest Wi-Fi 6E access point generation also has GPS built in. "We have thus brought the first self-locating WLAN access point to the market," Herzog continues. According to the manufacturer, this will eliminate the need to manually place access points on building plans in the future, among other things.

The tests for the use of the Aruba infrastructure by simplinic.Cloud were successfully completed at Sana Klinikum Offenbach. "Clinics with Aruba network technology now have IoT at the push of a button," said Steffen Geyer, CEO at simplinic.
