Berlin-based simplinic GmbH is a leading provider of asset tracking with Bluetooth technology in hospitals. Based on this real-time localization, simplinic has now integrated a sensor that reliably displays the occupancy of a hospital bed or couch. This means that the current location and occupancy status of a bed can be displayed in the simplinic software at any time. Until now, the control of processes related to occupancy during admission, transfer and discharge of patients has mostly been based on the documentation in the hospital information system. Since manual documentation is in many cases not up-to-date, complete or quickly available, it does not provide reliable transparency and a basis for holistic coordination. Phone calls by staff are usually the result.
In contrast, sensor technology can already trigger follow-up orders for bed transports, bed preparation or even occupancy in the future - completely independently of the administrative discharge in the HIS and central coordination points. The latter are usually only available on weekdays during office hours, but not in the evenings or at night, when the outflow from the emergency room creates enormous coordination difficulties. Occupancy-based control of maintenance cleaning is also an important use case: A patient room is only cleaned in the cleaning staff's task list if the room has been occupied at all since the last cleaning.
The sensors can be integrated into the existing IoT infrastructure of simplinic and are expected to be available in initial series in hospitals before the end of 2021.
