Leitwert (Zurich) and simplinic (Berlin) announced today that they will be jointly offering hospital customers solutions for mobile monitoring of vital parameters with Early Warning Scores. Both companies are among the innovation leaders for Bluetooth-based process solutions in hospitals in Switzerland and Germany. Many studies have proven the positive effect of Early Warning Scores on treatment outcomes. However, due to the high manual effort involved, early warning scores are only part of standard care in a few hospitals. Wearables approved as medical devices can now change this.
Medicaldevices are alsofollowing a technological megatrend and are becoming increasingly mobile and digital. Manufacturers have been offering mobile devices, so-called wearables, for monitoring vital parameters such as oxygen saturation, heart rate or respiratory rate for some time now. The first wearables have now been approved as certified medical devices and can be used for research or therapy. The wearables transmit their measured values via Bluetooth. Leitwert and simplinic work independently of manufacturers and integrate wearables from different providers to make them available in hospitals. While Leitwert brings expertise in firmware, wearables and research-related solutions for vital signs monitoring to the collaboration, simplinic focuses on the Bluetooth infrastructure, asset tracking and process automation in hospitals.
Monitoring vital signs plays an important role in hospital care. Since the 1990s, research has been conducted into early warning scores, i.e. early warning indicators that show a deterioration in the patient's state of health. While the medical benefits have been well documented scientifically, the manual effort and cost of the current generation of medical devices have so far prevented their introduction into clinical practice. Leitwert and simplinic have set themselves the goal of using the first available wearables via their Bluetooth infrastructure in such a way that hospitals can make early warning scores the standard of care at a reasonable cost.
"By working together, we can bring medical wearables to hospitals even faster and rethink care processes holistically with device manufacturers and users. The possibilities, from efficient validation studies to outpatient care models, are virtually unlimited," says Miro Käch, founder and CEO of Leitwert.
"Our companies' expertise and technology complement each other perfectly. We want to bring the first certified wearables with early warning scores to clinics quickly, because the medical benefits have long been proven!" says Steffen Geyer, founder and CEO of simplinic.
