Sana Kliniken Duisburg has successfully tested a completely new product in cooperation with the Berlin-based hospital IoT specialist simplinic . "We now know about each device where it is, whether it is in use and which probe heads are being used," says Julia Disselborg, Managing Director of Sana Kliniken Duisburg. The initial analysis results have shown a savings potential of 50,000 euros annually. "More important than the savings effect, however, is the possibility of developing a custom-fit ultrasound concept with the doctors that corresponds to actual needs," says Zeynep Timur, responsible for medical technology. The IoT sensors can be retrofitted to any commercially available ultrasound device.
Berlin-based simplinic GmbH is a leading provider of Bluetooth-based asset tracking in hospitals. Based on this real-time localization, simplinic has integrated additional sensors that measure the use of ultrasound devices by measuring acceleration and transmit this data via the Bluetooth network. A dashboard shows where an ultrasound device is located and whether it is in use or not. Detailed reporting allows the hospital to analyze how demand and equipment are matched. The degree of utilization of individual probes is also documented. Purchasing decisions can thus be derived from usage data.
"Hospitals can save a lot of money if they have transparency about equipment usage at the click of a mouse," says Steffen Geyer, founder and CEO of simplinic, "because usage and location are available live, asset-sharing concepts can also be implemented in the future, just like with car sharing."
